Terra 4

Terra 4

The exhibition entitle “Terra 4” was realised by the Cultural Technology and Communication Department of the University of the Aegean and was funded by the Ministry of Mercantile Marine, the Aegean and Island Policy. The exhibition was presented at the Technopolis City of Athens at Gazi, in 2008 and was designed and edited by members of the Image, Sound and Cultural Representation Lab (i.e. D. Papageorgiou, Nikos Boubaris, Helen Myrivili, Alexandros Spathis and Myrsini Antoniou). The exhibition presented aspects of the Northeast Aegean urban culture with the use of multimedia applications.

In the context of the exhibition the islands of the Northeast Aegean have been approached as a cohesive network, characterised by individual differentiations which however do not contradict common historical and cultural origins. The structure of the exhibition sections and the movement of visitors in the area was linear and aimed at a simulation of visitors' experience from arrival to departure, focusing on their gradual acquaintance with the history and cultural richness of islands and their familiarization with the urban culture, based on an abstract visual pattern which was enhanced by multimedia and audio applications. In this context the thematic areas of the exhibition were defined as follows: A) Port - Arrival, B) The Itineraries of the City (Lesvos - Chios - Samos - Limnos), C) Room with a View (Lesvos - Chios - Samos - Limnos) & D) Port - Departure.

The exhibition received widespread media coverage and positive comments by the electronic and print media on a nationwide level.
