Nikos Bubaris
Nikos Bubaris is Associate Professor of Creative Media at the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication, at the University of the Aegean, in Greece. Nikos is the director of the “Image, Sound & Cultural Representation” Lab. His research interests lie at the intersection of media studies, cultural theory and sound studies. His theoretical work include publications in books, journals and conference proceedings on information and content design, user-experience and interaction design, locative media walks, augmented and mixed reality, audio technologies, sonic cultures, sound art and design. He is author and editor of books on digital content design, cultural technologies, cultural industries, cultural representations, cultural theory and sonic environments. He has created and produced multimedia applications, games, media walks, soundscape compositions, interactive installations for art, museum and cultural exhibitions, actions and performances.
Konstantinos Aivaliotis
Konstantinos Aivaliotis (PhD, MA) is Assistant Professor at the Cultural Technology and Communication department of the University of Aegean. He holds degrees in Socio-Cultural and Visual Anthropology (UK, Goldsmiths College) and Anthropology of Education (France, Univ. Rouen). His work and academic interests focus on directing and screenwriting for creative documentaries, as well as documentary history and theory, audiovisual heritage, film festivals, and film markets, applying an interdisciplinary lens to the study of cultural industries. He has produced two feature-length documentaries, more than ten short documentaries and directed four documentaries. From 2008 to 2016 he was programmer at the Athens International Film Festival and from 2017-2020 he served as Director of Promotion at the Greek Film Centre. In addition to his academic duties, he is the co-founder and director of the ETHNOFEST organisation and titular festival, Regional Project Manager at Thessaloniki Locarno Industry Academy and Coordinator/Tutor at Thessaloniki Agora Doc/Boost Lab.
Theodora Charalampi
Theodora (Dora) Charalampi is a permanent music teacher in primary education. In 2023, she completed her doctoral dissertation at the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication at the University of the Aegean, and since 2024 she has been conducting postdoctoral research at the same department. Her research interests focus on cultural practices, public events, and education. She graduated from the Department of “European Cultural Studies” at the Hellenic Open University and holds two master’s degrees: the first in Cultural Informatics and Communication, and the second in Adult Education. She has served as a trainer at the Teacher Training Centers (PEK) of Mytilene and in the 2nd Primary Education District of Lesvos, as a school principal in primary education, and as the Head of Cultural Affairs for the Prefecture of Lesvos. She has collaborated with the local government of Lesvos on cultural promotion activities and cultural management issues. She has participated in research projects and has published articles in educational and cultural journals. In 2010, she published the book “Mousikopaixnidismata” (Musical Games with the Anthology of 1st and 2nd Grade) through Nakas Publications in Athens. Additionally, in May 2018, she composed and orchestrated the poem “To the Young Men of Kaisariani” by Liana Tyradelli from the poetry collection “Sappho Square”, which was released along with a CD in limited editions.
Triada Chatzigeoriou
Triada (Ada) Chatzigeorgiou has been a member of the Laboratory Teaching Staff (LTS) of the Cultural Technology and Communication Department of the University of the Aegean, since October 2017. She studied Social Anthropology at the Postgraduate Study Program of the Department of Social Anthropology of the University of the Aegean (1989-1991), and in 2002 she was accepted as a PhD candidate at the Department of Philosophy and Social Studies of the University of Crete. In 2006, she completed her PhD (with an A) entitled “Pontic Greeks from (ex) Soviet Union: Expressions of identity and socialization in Greece.” She has worked as a lecturer at the Cultural Technology and Communication Department/ Faculty of Social Sciences of the University of the Aegean, teaching the courses “Multiculturalism and Identities” and “Theory of Culture II”. Presently, she teaches the following courses: “Theory of Culture I and II”, “Multiculturalism and Identities” and “Memory and Identities”, as a member of the Laboratory Teaching Staff (LTS) of the Cultural Technology and Communication Department. The fields of her activity (including research/ announcements/ publications) mainly focus on social and cultural identities, migration, symbolic borders/boundaries/limits, collective/social memory and cultural representations of identity.
Angeliki Chrysanthi
Angeliki Chrysanthi is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication, specializing in Interactive Narrative and Digital Cultural Heritage. She was awarded her PhD by the University of Southampton in 2015. Her research focuses on the interdisciplinary field of Interactive Digital Narrative, with particular emphasis on theoretical and applied approaches to the (co-)creation and communication of complex narratives, especially in cultural and cultural heritage contexts. Her teaching and published work address topics such as digital cultural heritage interpretation, the design and evaluation of narrative flows in applications and games, and the exploration of spatial and social patterns emerging in Extended Reality (XR) experiences. She has co-authored and co-edited numerous publications in these areas and has participated in national and international research projects within the broader field of Digital Cultural Heritage.
Yiannis Iliadis
Yiannis Iliadis is a graduate of the Department of Social Anthropology and History of the University of the Aegean. He is a member of the Specialised Technical Laboratory Staff (STLS), possessing a university degree, of the Cultural Technology and Communication Department responsible for the field of “Research, Documentation and Management of Digital Cultural Data”. He is also a member of the Image, Sound and Cultural Representation Lab (ISCRL) being responsible for fieldwork and the design, documentation, cataloguing, digitalization, promotion and utilization of primary research data (i.e. interviews, audiovisual material, etc) and of archival material regarding cultural events, practices, artifacts, etc. He also teaches the courses of Cultural Representation and Interactive Design on a pre-graduate level. His research interests focus on social research, digital culture and the performance of cultural events.
Vlasis Kasapakis
Dr. Vlasios Kasapakis is an Associate Professor of Extended Reality (XR) at the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication, University of the Aegean (Greece). He holds a BSc in Cultural Technology and Communication, an MSc in Cultural Informatics and Communication, a PhD in Pervasive Games, and a Postdoctoral Diploma in Interaction in Mixed Reality Environments. His research interests focus on Extended Reality (Virtual, Augmented and Mixed Reality), pervasive and mobile computing, interaction technologies, serious games, education, and cultural heritage. He is the founder and scientific coordinator of the Aegean VR/MR Services group and has extensive experience in national and European research projects (Horizon 2020, FP7, Erasmus+, HFRI). Dr. Kasapakis has published more than 70 peer-reviewed scientific publications, serves on editorial boards and program committees of international journals and conferences, and has substantial teaching and supervision experience at undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral levels.
Dimitris Papageorgiou
Dimitris Papageorgiou has been a) a member of the team headed by professor S. Daskalopoulou, who was co-author of the proposal for the establishment of the Cultural Technology and Communication Department and coordinated the activities regarding the organisation of infrastructure, equipment and teaching staff, following the approval of the proposal (1999 – 2000); b) Scientific Responsible of the institutionalized Image, Sound and Cultural Representation Lab of the Cultural Technology and Communication Department (from 2000 to this day); c) Responsible for the Direction “Design of Digital Cultural Products” of the Postgraduate Study Program of the Cultural Technology and Communication Department entitled “Cultural Informatics and Communication (from 2004 to this day); d) Director of the Postgraduate Study Program of the Cultural Technology and Communication Department of the University of the Aegean entitled “Cultural Informatics and Communication” (2008 – 2012, 2014-2018); e) Chairperson of the Election Committee of the Public Library of Mytilene, after a proposal by the University of the Aegean (2003-2007); f) Representative of the Cultural Technology Department at the Research Committee of the University of the Aegean (2005-2010); Member of the seven-member body of the Research Committee (2007-2010); Vice chairperson of the Research Committee (2008-2010); g) Head of the Cultural Technology and Communication Department (2008-2011); h) Chairperson of the Board of the Museum – Library Stratis Eleftheriadis – Tériade (2016-2019). His scientific and research interests as member of research teams, Deputy Scientific Responsible or Scientific Responsible for a series of academic and research activities (including more than twenty [20] co-funded research projects), are closely interrelated with the promotion and management of cultural data via the use of new ICTs, autonomous digital applications, the organisation of presentations and exhibitions using multimedia, etc. His curriculum vitae also includes one (1) monography, the editing of three (3) collective editions, eleven (11) chapters in Greek language books, three (3) chapters in foreign language books, thirty-six (36) conference announcements, the editing and direction of three (3) documentaries (in collaboration with A. Spathis), one of which won first award at the Greek Film Festival of Los Angeles, and the editing of four (4) exhibitions promoting cultural data with the use of multimedia.
Despina Poulou
Despina Poulou is a graduate of the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication of the University of the Aegean, as well as the Department of Audiovisual Arts of the Ionian University. She has completed Postgraduate Studies in “Digital Art Forms” at the School of Fine Arts. She holds a PhD from the Department of Philosophy and Pedagogy at the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, with a research focus on the Philosophy and Aesthetics of Cinema. From 2016 to 2022, she worked within the framework of the program “Acquisition of Academic Teaching Experience for Young Scientists with a PhD”, at the Department of Visual and Applied Arts of the University of Western Macedonia, as well as at the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication of the University of the Aegean. In 2020-23, she conducted postdoctoral research at the Department of Philology of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, funded by a scholarship from the State Scholarships Foundation, investigating intertextuality in the work of Bernardo Bertolucci. Since 2022, she has been working at the Department of Cultural Technology and Communication as a tenured Assistant Professor, teaching courses related to theoretical and applied knowledge of audiovisual arts. Since 2023, she has been coordinator of the specialization "Culture and Documentary Film Production" in the postgraduate program "Cultural Informatics and Communication," in which she teaches the courses "Screenwriting, Directing and Cinematography I & II”. She is also a Consultant-Professor in the Unit SKI11, "Film Theory I: Philosophy of Image and Audiovisual Composition," of the Film Writing, Practice and Research Studies at the Hellenic Open University. In the context of her research interests, which focus on the relations between philosophy and cinema and, in recent years, on issues of intertextuality and intermediality in cinema, she has published articles in Greek and international scientific journals, as well as in the proceedings of Greek and international conferences.
Alexandros Spathis
Alexandros Spathis studied sound engineering at the Papantonopoulos Cinematography School and then proceeded with image editing, the creation of 3D graphics and the utilization of VFX (Visual Effects) for a large number of advertisement productions, and with documentaries and short films in Athens. He has been working for the Cultural Technology and Communication Department of the University of the Aegean since 2002 being responsible for the technical management and organisation of the Image, Sound and Cultural Representation Lab (ISCRL). He also participates in academic teaching on a pre and postgraduate level being responsible for video editing and 3D graphics. He has participated in a large number of research projects on production, digitization and processing of audiovisual material and 3D representations, has edited installations for exhibitions organised by the Cultural Technology and Communication Department and has collaborated with various agencies (e.g. Foundation of the Hellenic World, Region of the Aegean, etc), private enterprises, etc, for the installation and configuration/parametrization of audiovisual equipment and Motion Capture Systems (VR and AR).
Irene Stathi
Irene Stathi is a Professor of Cinematographic Studies at the Cultural Technology and Communication Department of the University of the Aegean. She has studied Spectacle Theory at the University of Bologna and was awarded a PhD by the Panteion University of Social and Political Sciences. She has worked at the Panteion University and the University of Patras. She was director of the Audiovisual Applications and Communication Lab of the Cultural Technology and Communication Department and has collaborated with cultural organisations (i.e. International Film Festivals), Film Archives/ Museums and Research Centres related to Cinematography. She has published scientific books and articles in Greece and abroad and has participated in a large number of international conferences on cinema and audiovisual means. Her research interests include filmmaking and documentary history and theory, semiology of moving image, the relationship between the cinema and other forms of art, dramaturgy and film production, audiovisual heritage, as well as methodologies used to restore and digitalize movies.
